Mussoorie Sky Car to launch India’s longest passenger ropeway
Aiming to cut travel time from Mussourie in Uttarakhand to the state’s capital Dehradun to 20 minutes, a private firm has announced the construction of a passenger ropeway between Dehradun and Mussoorie, scheduled for completion by September 2026. Spanning 5.2 km with a climb of 1,000 metres, the project is set to become South Asia’s longest mono-cable detachable gondola ropeway.
In a press statement, Mussoorie Sky Car that says the ropeway will support tourism and mobility between the two locations and will be among the longest systems of its kind globally.
It adds that the project was introduced at the Interalpin trade fair in Innsbruck, Austria, and its construction has officially begun.
The consortium also states it has secured a second project, the Yamunotri Ropeway, which will span 3.8 km between Yamunotri and Kharsali, aimed at improving access to the pilgrimage site.

The statement adds that the project will be built by a consortium of three companies, FIL Industries, Poma SAS and SRM Engineering. It adds that FIL Industries, India’s largest CEN-certified ropeway operator, also operates Skyview by Empyrean in Jammu and Kashmir, a 2.8 km ropeway between Sanget and Patnitop.

The companies say that while SRM Engineering brings significant experience in infrastructure development and operations in India and internationally, it is supported by the Rahman Group and Hindustan Dock Yard. Additionally, Poma SAS serves as the technical partner, shareholder, and strategic supplier for the ropeway, marking its first concession investment in India. A significant portion of the ropeway’s equipment will be manufactured locally through Poma India.
