Kaimosi Friends University has appointed Professor Peter Mwita as Vice-Chancellor, ending his one-year term in an acting capacity.
The university council confirmed the appointment in a statement issued by Chairperson Dr Bernadette Mungai. Mwita’s five-year term took effect Thursday, May 1.
“The appointment comes after a vigorous selection process and reflects our confidence in his leadership. He has demonstrated commitment and competence during his time as acting VC, and we are confident he will continue to steer the university towards excellence,” said Mungai.
Mwita was appointed in February 2024 by the Ministry of Education while a court reviewed a legal challenge to the earlier appointment of Professor Mary Onyango Abukutsa.
The case, filed on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, by a candidate who contested the recruitment process, remains unresolved.
Before joining Kaimosi Friends University, Mwita served at Machakos University.
Meanwhile, the United States International University-Africa has appointed Dennis Awori as its new Chancellor for a five-year term beginning Thursday, April 10.

An aeronautical engineer trained at the University of Manchester, Awori also studied leadership at Ashridge University in the United Kingdom and Emory Business College in the United States.
He previously served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Japan and played a central role in establishing diplomatic ties with Korea.
