A new episode of the acclaimed series My Music with Rhiannon Giddens spotlights the extraordinary work of Emer Mayock – flute player, composer, and cultural leader from Mayo.

Filmed in Bridge Street Bar & Venue in the heart of Castlebar, the episode showcases Mayock’s deep-rooted connection to place and tradition through a compelling musical dialogue with world-renowned artist Rhiannon Giddens.

Rhiannon Giddens, a Grammy Award-winning musician and MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellow, is celebrated for her artistry across genres and her commitment to cultural storytelling. She recently brought her signature banjo playing to Beyoncé’s chart-topping hit Texas Hold ’Em.

Giddens and Mayock previously collaborated on They’re Calling Me Home, Giddens’ 2022 Grammy-winning album where Mayock’s sensitive uilleann pipes, flute and whistle playing featured prominently.

Emer Mayock is the founder and director of Music of Mayo, an initiative dedicated to celebrating the county’s rich and evolving musical heritage. In addition to her work as a performer and composer, she is also a leading cultural advocate, spearheading the campaign to establish Gaelcholáiste Mhaigh Eo, an Irish-medium secondary school in Castlebar.

This evocative episode of My Music highlights the importance of collaboration, the sharing of tradition and the deep connections between place, people and the traditional arts in all their forms.

Episode 4, featuring Emer Mayock, is available now on Apple TV and PBS as part of the series My Music with Rhiannon Giddens.
