My Perfect Weekend with Dutch dance music star Hardwell
Who: Dutch electronic dance music titan Hardwell, 37, will be back in Singapore to perform at Marquee Singapore on Sept 12.
Hardwell, voted the world’s top DJ in 2013 and 2014 by readers of electronic music publication DJ Mag, is known for dance music hits like Call Me A Spaceman (2012). He has collaborated with pop artistes such as American R&B singer Jason Derulo and remixed songs for the likes of British band Coldplay and Barbadian star Rihanna.
The DJ, whose real name is Robbert van de Corput, is also the founder and owner of music label Revealed Recordings.
Compared with his usual sets at big festivals, his high-energy club set at Marquee is expected to be edgier, dig deeper into his discography and include unreleased tracks.
“It is not often that this happens in my world, but if there was no show, no flight to catch and no madness, I’d probably wake up at around 8am in a villa on (Spanish island) Ibiza. Ibiza has this special energy that makes you feel like you can slow down a bit. First thing I’d do is to step out onto the balcony, take in that Balearic breeze while sipping a fresh coffee, and enjoy the quietness.
I have been focusing on a healthier diet in recent years, so these days, my go-to breakfast would be either yogurt or protein pancakes with berries, and some kind of juice – super clean, super tasty. It is my go-to because I like to start my day filling up on something that makes me feel good.
I’d probably head down to a cafe, such as Passion Cafe in Marina Botafoch, for breakfast. It has a cool, laid-back vibe.
I have been keeping to a pretty tight fitness routine these couple of years, so after the small breakfast, I’d probably hit the gym. I have grown to really love it and find it helps to clear my head and keep me sharp, especially after late nights or intense touring.
I’d take an early lunch with friends at a place called Fish Shack. It is a bit tucked away, but that is the charm. The food is amazingly fresh.
After lunch, I’d go back to the villa to get some creative time in. I am constantly working on music, so no matter what day it is or where I am, I will always be experimenting with some ideas or trying to finish off a track.
Then afterwards, I’d probably chill by the pool with some of my Revealed crew if they are around, chat about music and make plans for the evening.
For dinner, I’d head with friends to a restaurant called Casa Maca. I’d order something like grilled octopus or seafood paella. It is a stunning little place and has an incredible view of (historic town and Unesco World Heritage Site) Dalt Vila.
Even though I’d not be performing, it is Ibiza, so I’d still head out. After all, I am not just a DJ, but also a fan of the scene.
I’d probably hop between a few clubs – most likely Ushuaia Ibiza and then on to Amnesia or the newest one on the island, UNVRS. It is always a great chance to meet and catch sets from my friends who are DJs and check out new music.
The clubs in Ibiza close late, so Sunday would start with a lazy morning. I’d enjoy a morning coffee and relax a little by the pool while chatting with friends about the good time we had the night before.
I would definitely jump on a boat and head over to Formentera, a nearby island. That place is pure magic, super peaceful, perfect to reset the mind.
For lunch, I’d drop by El Pirata, a restaurant on the island. It has great food and an absolutely stunning view with blue waters.
In the late afternoon, I’d head back to the villa. Ibiza is an amazing place to find inspiration, whether in the clubs or out in the beauty of the island’s nature, so I’d want to jump into making some music to get any new ideas down.
Hardwell heads to the gym in his downtime and goes to restaurants on Spanish island Ibiza.

For Sunday dinner, I’d go somewhere more relaxed, like El Chiringuito on Es Cavallet beach. Its grilled sea bass and sangria are a killer combo.
In the evening, I’d arrange a small get-together at the villa – with friends, nothing too wild, just a chance to relax and chat about the parties and music on the island.”
