MoTC Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun participates in the India Maritime Week 2025, held in Mumbai, India, on 27-31 October 2025.

A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun attended the India Maritime Week 2025, being held at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India, from 27 to 31 October.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India organized the event to explore opportunities to enhance seaport infrastructure, upgrade port management operations and promote investment in the maritime transport sector.
Ministers and deputy ministers from Liberia, Mauritius, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Norway, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Antigua and Barbuda attended the event.
During the meeting on 27 October, the deputy minister discussed the cruise passenger economy, carbon reduction in the maritime transport sector, the development of transforming into engine ports, strengthening the supply chain for cargo distribution, blue economy financing and investment, digital transformation and emerging technologies in the maritime sector, maritime safety and security, port development along the Indo-Pacific region, and human resource development.
He also attended the ministerial meeting, and discussed the matters related to strategic location of Myanmar connecting south and southeast Asia, Myanmar’s ports-Yangon, Thilawa, and Kyaukpyu which serve as vital links between Myanmar and regional and global markets and efforts of Myanmar in providing training for maritime professionals and seafarers to be in line with the provisions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
He then stated that the India-Myanmar Coastal Shipping Agreement has been signed, and new trade routes will be opened, leading to improved regional connectivity. Under the BIMSTEC Coastal Shipping Agreement, seamless maritime connections across the Bay of Bengal can be established, and that will support a collaborative blue economy among all coastal countries. Ensuring a well-functioning global maritime supply chain cannot be achieved by a single coastal nation alone but requires joint efforts from all coastal countries. Myanmar is committed to working in cooperation with regional partners such as ASEAN and BIMSTEC to enhance the development of the maritime trade sector. — MNA/KTZH
