Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund received 19 Ford Motor Company Africa vehicles
Ford Motor Company Africa’s partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund will ensure that the fund enables every child to reach their full potential and make their dreams come true with the 19 vehicles donated.
Speaking at Saxonwold on July 31, Ford Motor Company Africa President Neale Hill said he was happy to be part of the fund’s 30th anniversary milestone.

“For three decades, the fund has been a beacon of hope, dignity and opportunity for children and youth across the country. As a brand that recently celebrated 100 years in South Africa, and 120 years globally, Ford Motor Company understands the importance of legacy, giving back and creating meaningful, lasting impact.”
Hill added that the motor company believed in supporting projects that made a lasting difference. For the motor company, this was not a corporate social responsibility programme but a lasting commitment that made a difference in people’s lives and, in this case, the most vulnerable in our society, our children.

This initiative is a practical demonstration of Ford’s global purpose to build a better world where every person is free to move to pursue their dreams.
The fund’s CEO, Dr Linda Ncube-Nkomo, said Ford Motor Company Africa had always been a helping hand.
“In April, we hosted a first-of-its-kind event in SA and the second one on the continent, the Pan African Children Summit. It saw 275 children delegates come to SA from 15 countries, the theme was ‘To be seen, heard and engaged in education’. Ford was a critical partner in this event by providing cars to transport the children and truly living up to their purpose.”
Hill noted that July 31 marked a symbolic handover of 19 vehicles that have been purposefully selected and, in some cases, specially converted for the fund’s core programmes.

“This fleet includes four of our transits, three of which have been adapted into a mobile clinic, a mobile workshop and a delivery van for sustainable livelihood initiatives. These vehicles will be loaned to the fund for three years with full ownership being transferred as a donation at the end of this period.”
Hill concluded that these were more than vehicles; they were enablers of care, safety, economic upliftment and opportunity. The vehicles would help the fund reach more communities effectively with greater impact.
