Netflix Cancels ‘Heartstopper’ Series – But Fans Will Get A Final Movie

Netflix will be giving Heartstopper the finale it deserves.

The streamer announced Heartstopper will return with a feature film instead of a fourth season to conclude the series. Stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke will reprise their roles and serve as executive producers on the picture, alongside Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman.

The movie will be based on the as yet unreleased sixth volume of the Heartstopper series, written by Oseman. It will pick up after the events of Season 3 which saw Nick Nelson (Connor) and Charlie Spring (Locke) taking their relationship to the next level.

The final installment to Nick and Charlie’s love story will dare to ask, “Can first loves really last forever?”

According to Netflix’s Tudum, the film will “wrap up” Nick and Charlie’s story once and for all. “Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Still Alice director Wash Westmoreland will direct.

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said in a statement shared in a press release. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

Filming is set to start this summer, but there is no word on a planned release date yet.

Though it sounds like there will certainly be some drama in this new installment, Oseman has promised the story will have a “happy ending.”

There is also a chance the film will include some moments from the Nick and Charlie novella, which explores their relationship before Nick goes to college.

For now, all three seasons of Heartstopper are streaming now on Netflix.
