Nearly 30 years after his iconic swings and misses, Adam Sandler has returned to the green as the beloved Happy Gilmore in a sequel that dropped on Netflix last week. The follow-up to the cult classic has fans flocking to their screens, eager to share their hot takes.

The 1996 original, which featured Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, and the late Carl Weathers, quickly became a go-to flick for teen hangouts. Fans of the movie had all but given up hope of seeing the scrappy golfer’s return, but Happy Gilmore 2 has now arrived, bringing back its titular character to the fairway for the first time since his epic showdown with Shooter McGavin.

The sequel boasts an impressive roster of golf greats making cameo appearances, including John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris, teeing off on July 25.

The star-studded cast doesn’t stop there, featuring Benny Safdie from “Oppenheimer,” Puerto Rican sensation Bad Bunny, wrestling pros MJF and Becky Lynch, NFL standout Travis Kelce, and comedy legends Jon Lovitz, Rob Schneider, and Steve Buscemi, with Post Malone adding musical flair.

Netflix teased fans with a snippet of the new movie on X, announcing: “Happy Gilmore 2 is now playing.” This prompted a wave of comments and reviews.

Among those who haven’t seen it yet, some expressed trepidation, with one viewer commenting: “Why am I afraid this is going to suck?” Another tempered their hopes, saying: “Have low expectations. Hopefully I’m wrong.”

However, some have stepped in to calm the nerves of fans of the classic movie, with one person raving: “Just watched. 10/10.”

Another chimed in with praise, saying, “Loved every second of it,”.

An enthusiastic viewer shared their overnight binge before work: “Just stayed up all night to watch before I have to go to work. It was very, very good. As a Shooter fan, thank you Adam Sandler.”

Someone else chimed in: “Been looking forward to it for a while. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. It keeps the same high-calibre level of creativity that only the man himself, Adam Sandler can deliver. And the amount of names that take roles is phenomenal.”

Another viewer was pleasantly taken aback by their reaction: “Genuinely one of the funniest films I have seen in a long time. It’s a nostalgic wonder and I love the fact that it keeps the 90’s humour alive! I almost want to say they don’t make films like this anymore but I’m obviously wrong.”

In a more analytical tone, another commenter offered their verdict: “Was surprised I actually enjoyed it. Was worried it was going to just be a rehash of the original and its not.”

They elaborated: “It’s a completely new story with great call backs and great cameos. I’ll say it started a little weak but got 10x better as it went on. Is it better than the original? No of course not but it’s still very enjoyable.”
