What is ‘Sirens’ About?
What if someone in your family had a relationship with their boss that was so creepy, you felt like you had to stage some kind of intervention? In “Sirens”, that’s the situation Devon (Meghann Fahy) finds herself in. Reconnecting with her sister Simone (Milly Alcock) reveals the strange relationship Simone has with her boss, the wealthy, cult-leader-like Michaela (Julianne Moore), and trying to separate the two is going to take a lot more than Devon realizes.
Where was ‘Sirens’ Filmed?
According to ScreenRant, much of “Sirens” was filmed in Lloyd Harbor, New York. The wealthy Kells live near a small island village, and all the scenes set in the village were filmed in Lloyd Harbor.
It’s a fitting location considering the wealth and fame that’s found there. Some of the celebrities owning properties in the area include Billy Joel, Jerry Seinfeld, and Angelina Jolie.
Scenes set in and near the Kells’ home were filmed at the nearby Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, though CGI was used to make the Caumsett estate look more like a modern mansion.
While most of the interior scenes and shots were also filmed in New York, they were far from Lloyd Harbor. In most cases, when a scene unfolds inside, it was filmed at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.
Who is in the Cast for ‘Sirens’?
Julianne Moore plays the wealthy and enigmatic Michaela Kell, Milly Alcock plays Michaela’s personal assistant Simone, while Meghann Fahy is Simone’s protective older sister Devon.
Kevin Bacon plays Michaela’s husband Peter, while Glenn Howerton of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fame plays the Kells’ rich neighbor, Ethan Corbin III.
The rest of the cast includes Bill Camp, Josh Segarra, Trevor Salter, Britne Oldford, Lauren Weedman, and Jenn Lyon.
What Do Early Reviews Say About ‘Sirens’?
As of this writing, the critics are mostly loving “Sirens”. The show has an 83% tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on only 6 reviews.
One common thread throughout the reviews is that there are three perfect reasons to watch “Sirens”: Julianne Moore, Milly Alcock, and Meghann Fahy. Their performances are praised in just about every review.
For example, Therese Lacson of Collider writes, “Among the three actresses, who are the highlight of the series, Alcock is the surprise standout of ‘Sirens’, displaying Simone’s wide range of emotion and hidden depths.”
Likewise, Nick Schager of The Daily Beast praises the show with, “As far as sagas of the untrustworthy rich and famous go, it’s an eminently watchable tale of greed, ambition, deception, and trauma (So. Much. Trauma.), aided in no small part by a big, bold, charming performance from Meghann Fahy.”
