New initiative “Targeted Poverty Alleviation Programme of one Village at a Time”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said one of his focus in 2025 will be on poverty alleviation and social protection programs to ease the burden on the poorest of the poor in the country.

He made the comments in his New Years message.

“I want to focus our vision on lifting the most marginalised and poorest of the poor out of poverty by a program of Targeted Poverty Alleviation Programme of one Village at a Time,” he said.

“Of course, this will not be done overnight, but it can be done, as we have seen in other nations who put their minds to it, to ensure every-one has a livelihood whether working for someone else or working for themselves.”

He said all Fijians deserve a life of dignity.

“It is time to stop giving hand-outs, and it is time to work on lifting our people out of the cycle of poverty and reliance.”

“This calls for innovation and investment. It has to be a whole-of-country approach but starting with ‘One Village at a Time.”
