Automakers, including Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Kia India, JSW MG Motor India, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), reported double-digit growth in their domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) in May.
The sales were largely spurred by new launches. M&M’s Thar Roxx and electric vehicles (EVs) are in high demand and, similarly, Kia India, has received positive response to its recently launched Carens Clavis.
However, Tata Motors’ sales continued to decline during the month. The group had no new product. However, the company saw a growth of 2 per cent year-on-year in its total EV sales (including exports) to 5,685 units in May when compared to 5,558 units in the corresponding month last year.
Maruti Suzuki India, and Hyundai Motor India will declare their numbers on Monday. Backed by new launches through collaboration with Suzuki Motor, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) also recorded sales growth of 16 per cent y-o-y to 29,280 units in May against 25,273 units in May 2024.
“With the onset of monsoon and forecasts indicating a normal to above-normal season, we remain optimistic about improved market sentiment in the coming months, particularly across rural and semi-urban regions. This, backed by our vast product portfolio and innovative campaigns, will keep us well-positioned to maintain this growth trajectory,” said Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, TKM.
Kia India sold 22,315 units in the domestic market during the month, a y-o-y growth of 14.4 per cent when compared to 19,500 units in May 2024.
“Our strong sales performance in May, reflects the growing resonance of Kia’s diverse offerings across segments. This momentum validates our ongoing efforts to expand and strengthen our product portfolio in line with evolving customer needs,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India.
JSW MG Motor India reported monthly sales of 6,304 units in May, a y-o-y growth of 40 per cent over the 4,510 units sold in May 2024.
