New Newcastle United Sporting Director – Premier League owner trying to persuade him to stay
The new Newcastle United Sporting Director is set to be announced very shortly, unless his current employer manages to convince him to stay at the last moment.
The Times report that Ross Wilson is United’s choice and they want him in post by October.
Wilson is current Chief Football Officer at Nottingham Forest.
The Times say that Evangelos Marinakis, the Nottingham Forest owner, could potentially still convince Ross Wilson to stay.
Newcastle United did of course have to manage throughout the summer without a Sporting Director or CEO.

Whilst this month we finally saw David Hopkinson become the new United CEO.
The Nottingham Forest owner is, as we all know, very hands on.
Absolutely pathetic when he confronted Nuno on the pitch in May when Forest could only draw 2-2 at home to already relegated Leicester, then predictably sacking him early this season (after picking up four points in three games) despite the brilliant job he has done there. Instantly replacing him with Ange Postecoglou, who finished fourth bottom with Spurs last season.
The better news for Forest fans though, was that Evangelos Marinakis did persuade Morgan Gibbs-White to stay this summer, when it looked like he was (ironically) already on his way to Spurs.
If Ross Wilson is indeed the top choice to become the new Newcastle United Sporting Director, here’s hoping the Forest owner isn’t able to convince him against the move.
