New special music venue parking permits to help bands touring in Seattle
SEATTLE — In front of the world-famous Crocodile Café, Seattle city leaders unveiled a new Music Venue Zone parking permit program.
The goal is to make room for tour buses and trucks full of equipment.

“When I’m advancing with artists, with their tour managers, one of the first of the first questions that is asked is ‘What’s your parking situation? Can we park right in front of the venue? Can we stay there all day?'” said Sam Smith of Crocodile Café.
What’s known as the MVZ Program makes it easier for bands to park right out front.
“This is going to support the music in Seattle a lot more easily if people don’t bypass our city for other places with more parking,” said Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson.
We are told this plan is the first of its kind in the nation.
Planners say it was created through feedback from more than 300 musicians and venue operators.
“If they see that there is no parking or that it’s by permit only and it’s passed on to the artist, they might be like sorry, don’t want to do it,” said Smith.
And parking closer doesn’t just make it easier for visiting bands.
“I’ve known bands that have parked two blocks down, loaded in, and then an hour later they went back to the van to grab something and they are like my window is smashed in,” said Smith.
As the new plan to bring bands closer to venues is launched, amny are hoping that more bands will flock to Seattle.
