New sports complex to break ground early 2026, replacing ex-canidrome
Macao’s defunct canidrome and its adjacent Lin Fong Sports Centre are set to be transformed into a 40,400-square-metre multi-sports park, with construction kicking off in the first quarter of 2026, The Macau Post Daily reports.
A public tender for the new park’s first phase of construction closed 13 August. The Public Works Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials DSOP) confirmed that all 17 bids submitted were accepted, with cost quotes ranging from 1.27 billion patacas to 1.36 billion patacas and proposed timelines of between 913 and 973 working days (around 3.5 to 3.9 years).
Located in Macao’s northern Fai Chi Kei district, the canidrome was decommissioned back in 2018. The Lin Fong Sports Centre’s football field, swimming pools, running track and other facilities are currently operational.

The redevelopment’s first phase will see the demolition of the old dog track to make way for three new multi-storey sports pavilions and an underground car park with 69 car spaces and 166 motorcycle spaces. The Lin Fong Sports Centre will remain operational throughout this stage.
Plans show that Pavilion 1’s four levels will house swimming pools, basketball courts, a running track and children’s cycling paths, while six-level Pavilion 2 will feature a skatepark, table tennis facilities, a climbing wall, and courts for volleyball and badminton. Seven-level Pavilion 3 will include a five-a-side football field, a two-storey multi-purpose room and other activity spaces.
Phase two of the project will only begin once the first three pavilions are completed. It will involve demolishing the current Lin Fong Sports Centre to build a children’s pavilion with indoor and outdoor play areas, creative classrooms and reading rooms. A new football pitch, an upgraded running track and a larger underground car park will also be added.
