National Green Tribunal has issued notices to Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority, environment department, Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, district magistrate of North Delhi and Delhi Pollution Control Committee over the encroachment of a waterbody in Narela.
A resident filed a plea in the tribunal, claiming that the waterbody was encroached upon and no attempt was made to rejuvenate it. The applicant claimed that the waterbody was referred to in the revenue record. The counsel for the applicant also referred to the communication sent by DDA to the director planning for the beautification of the pond.
‘Applicant has also placed on record the communication dated July 13, 2022, sent by the member secretary, Wetland Authority of Delhi, to the superintending engineer, waterbodies, DDA, with a request to revive and develop the pond and submit the report,’ said the tribunal. It added that despite the said communication, no steps were taken by the authorities.
