There are few moments in fashion that feel straight out of a movie and last night in Los Angeles was one of them. Under the warm California evening sky, two of the biggest names in fashion and cinema, Nicole Kidman and Kendall Jenner, walked in looks that paid gorgeous tributes to iconic movie costumes and the timeless charm of Hollywood.
Kidman wore a black satin bustier gown designed by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel, draped beautifully and decorated with sculpted satin camellias.
Nicole Kidman opened the show with a walk that could have been lifted from a vintage black-and-white film. She wore a black satin bustier gown designed by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel, draped beautifully and decorated with sculpted satin camellias. The dress was her nod to Rita Hayworth, one of the top stars of what was the Golden Age of Hollywood. Kidman’s black gown brough to mind Rita’s unforgettable black ensemble in Gilda. Even the music playing during her walk was the same song Hayworth performed in that scene.
Kidman’s styling also tipped its hat to the same old-school glamour. She kept her blonde curls to one side and used smoky makeup to frame her face, keeping her lips the center of attention using a deep red classic lipstick.
Jenner appeared in a shimmering, crystal-studded corset bodysuit designed by Catherine Martin and Angus Strathie
A little later, Kendall Jenner brought a completely different kind of movie magic to the runway. Unlike Kidman’s monochromatic black gown, Jenner flaunted an ensemble that was all about glitter and showgirl magic. Jenner appeared in a shimmering, crystal-studded corset bodysuit designed by Catherine Martin and Angus Strathie. What makes it unique is that this very dress was originally worn by Nicole Kidman as Satine in Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge! The outfit captured the same energy of the movie and Jenner added a playful touch to the look with a Rouge-inspired black top hat and sheer tights.
The two stars walked down the Los Angeles runway of Paramount Studios that has served as the set for iconic films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Godfather. The event put the spotlight on how fashion and cinema are intertwined, and models/actors walked the ramp in legendary movie costumes that harked back to Hollywood’s old glamour.
