Nigeria at Risk of Earthquakes and Climate Disasters – City 105.1 FM

Dr. Anietie Ikott, a scientist and CEO of Anirich Nigeria Limited based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has raised concerns over Nigeria’s vulnerability to natural disasters, warning that the country could soon face a major earthquake.

During a recent media engagement in Uyo, Ikott challenged the widely held belief that Nigeria is outside earthquake-prone zones. He cited the recent tremors experienced in Abuja and parts of the South-West as evidence that seismic activity is possible in the country.

“Nigeria is increasingly experiencing climate-related disasters — from destructive windstorms to heavy rainfall and severe flooding,” he said, referencing recent incidents in Niger and Borno states that resulted in significant loss of life and infrastructure damage.

He cautioned, “It is only a matter of time before a powerful earthquake strikes. No region in Nigeria should assume it is exempt from such threats. When it happens, the affected area may never fully recover.”

Ikott emphasized that advanced preparations are essential and revealed that he has developed a weather control technology that, according to him, can help mitigate such disasters.

“This technology can be used to control earthquakes, flooding, excessive rainfall, tornadoes, and other extreme weather conditions,” he asserted, calling for attention to proactive climate and disaster risk management strategies.
