Nintendo is begging you not to peel the 2 screen film layer off
We all love pulling the plastic film off a shiny new gadget, but ahead of the official Nintendo Switch 2 release date, Nintendo has urged users not to remove the protective film layer on the screen.
In a new Health and Safety document, which can be found here in PDF form (thanks, Nintendo Soup), Nintendo confirms in a new Careful Usage section that the screen is covered with a film layer, which is designed to “prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage.”
In other words, while it might be tempting to pull the cover off, it’s advisable not to as it’s there for a good reason. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy a screen protector either – you’ll be able to stack this on top and keep your Switch 2 scratch free for years to come.
The rest of Nintendo’s care tips are pretty straight forward, like not covering the air intakes or the vents on the console, using it in dusty or smoky areas, and making sure that you charge the in-built batteries at least once every single months to prolong the life of your console. I’m sure, given the launch line-up, that won’t be a problem for the majority of users.
Opinion
While protective film is common with gadgets these days, I’m pretty relieved that this warning has been picked up given how many people will opt to boot up the console without reading any of the documentation.
While it’s a neat feature – and one I’m sure will save a few consoles – I’d personally be sticking a screen protector on top to get the best out of both worlds.
