Nissan’s New Mid-Size SUV to Rival Hyundai Creta in India by 2026 | Auto News

With trends shifting towards compact SUVs in India, Nissan’s upcoming SUV in India will be rivalling the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Nissan’s upcoming SUV to rival Hyundai Creta
New Delhi: Nissan India have announced their intention of launching an affordable MPV along with a mid-size SUV in FY 2025-26. The MPV is scheduled to be launched this year, while the SUV competing directly with Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos will be launched in 2026. According to media sources, the SUV will be launched in Brazil first and could be called Kait, though it is unclear if this name will be exclusive to the South American country’s market.
It is also unlikely to be placed below the Kicks Play in Brazil. Nissan have already confirmed that the new SUV will be exported to more than 20 countries, including Mexico and Argentina. They have, though, said that the new car will be launched in Asia. The Kait has been known to have made a few runs as a test mule in recent weeks.
The Kait is expected to not have any relation with either Renaul Kardian and Nissan magnite and will have a unique design. It will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the new Renault Duster on sale in global markets.
Renault themselves are set to launch the third-generation of the Duster SUV and its seven-seater cousin in India around 2026. Both the SUVs will come otu the Renaul-Nissan facility in Chennai. It isn’t know whether the cars will be brought out in diesel variant as well.
Nissan SUV’s expected powertrain
Further, the brand’s Resende (RJ) manufacturing site in Brazil will produce the new Nissan SUV. The new SUV is expected to come in a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Globally, this engine produces around 152 bhp and 250 Nm. The company hasn’t revealed if there will be a manual option. Nissan also have a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine.
The SUV will, of course, have a heavy competition given that both Creta and Seltos have their market share and have been dominating the sales charts. However, given that India has been quite fond of the SUV segment lately, it will be giving some competition to its rivals.
