World champions Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson were recently named USA Track and Field Athletes of the Year.
The two had an incredible season, which culminated with gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August.

This was Lyles’s third award, and he became the second man to do so. Richardson scooped her first award after a breakout 2023 season, per USA Track and Field.
Lyles was on fire in 2023; he won the men’s 100m and 200m and anchored Team USA to 4×100 goal at the World Athletics Championships. The 26-year-old is a finalist for the Men’s World Athlete of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Richardson stunned the Jamaicans to win the women’s 100m and 4×100 women’s relay. She also took bronze in the women’s 200m.
Unfortunately, both were beaten in the Diamond League final on home soil.
Richardson beats Fraser-Pryce
The women’s 100m final in Budapest was billed as a showdown between sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and her compatriot Shericka Jackson.
Richardson went into the event as a dark horse after a couple of wins in the Diamond League meets.
In the final, running in the outer lane, she stunned Jackson and Fraser-Pryce to win her first 100m world title, as Sports Brief earlier reported. The American clocked 10.65 seconds, while Jackson clocked 10.72 to finish second.
Fraser-Pryce crossed the finish line in 10.81 seconds. The stage is set for these three to meet in the Paris Olympics next year.

Bolt embraces Lyles
Sports Brief earlier reported on Bolt embracing Lyles after winning the men’s 200m at the Racers Grand Prix on June 3 in Kingston, Jamaica.
The World Champion clocked 19.67 seconds, finishing way ahead of Zharnel Hughes, who came in at 20.14 seconds. Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer came in third with 20.53 seconds.
Among the fans in Kingston was the legendary Usain Bolt, who stood up to shake and embrace the World Champion.
