Norton to launch flagship V4 superbike in India this year – Bike News
Following the initial batch of fully imported models, TVS is expected to manufacture Norton motorcycles in India for both domestic sales and exports.
TVS Motor Company acquired Norton Motorcycles in 2020 but it was online recently that the Hosur-based company officially confirmed the British brand’s entry into the Indian two-wheeler market. Since the past couple of weeks, a lot has been written about Norton and its future plans in India. The latest media report sheds more light on the company’s India debut.
According to the latest report by Autocar India, Norton will set foot in India towards the end of 2025 with two models and one of them will be a flagship superbike. The report goes on to mention that the company is working on a motorcycle internally code-named B110 which will use a 4-cylinder 1200cc engine.
Norton V4 expectations
While TVS hasn’t confirmed which exact bike it will be, the Norton V4 range fits the above description perfectly. For the uninitiated, Norton’s V4 range comprises two models: the fully-faired Norton V4 SV and the naked V4 CR. Either of them could make it to the Indian market. In fact, the Norton V4 CR cafe racer was displayed at TVS’ pavilion at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year.
Norton V4SV
Both these models are positioned at Norton’s top shelf and hence prices will be expectedly very steep. In Europe, these motorcycles are priced upwards of 42,000 Euros (approx. Rs 40.32 lakh) which is way more expensive than flagship Ducatis or Triumphs. However, these could also benefit from the recently announced Free Trade Agreement between India and the UK.
Coming to specs, as the name suggests the V4 SV and V4 CR are powered by a 1200cc V4 engine that produces 183 bhp at 12,000rpm and 125 Nm at 9,000rpm. For the extravagant price tag, the bikes come with high-end aluminium chassis with CNC billet-aluminium swingarms and have high-spec Ohlins and Brembo cycle parts.
Meanwhile, as per last year’s report, Norton is planning to launch six new models in India in the next three years. This will include a variety of engine categories including single-cylinder, twin-cylinder, and V4s. Following the acquisition, TVS invested over Rs 1,000 crore into Norton, focusing on product development, research and development, and establishing a new manufacturing facility in Solihull, UK, with an annual production capacity of around 8,000 motorcycles .
Initially, Norton will bring its models via the CBU route but TVS is working on making local assembly for Norton models in India a possibility in the future. More details from Norton and TVS are expected to come our way in the coming months.
