Nvidia Gauges a Country’s Development by Its GPU Count
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Manager of the National Business of Nvidia, Andry Gunawan, stated that the presence of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) plays a significant role in supporting artificial intelligence (AI) performance. The existence of the graphics card has become crucial for a country for various computational purposes.
“Jensen Huang once said, to see whether a country is advanced or not, it can be determined by the number of GPUs in that country,” he said at the Graduation Laskar AI event on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Jensen Huang, mentioned by Andry, is the owner and leader of the semiconductor company Nvidia. The American company produces various chips for personal computers (PCs) or data centers. Nvidia’s current business focus is on supporting the performance of artificial intelligence technology in various fields, not just for smooth gaming or design purposes.
According to Andry, the rapid development of chips is also a result of the rapid pace of technological advancement. He mentioned that Nvidia can launch two chips per year. He emphasized that this progress is inseparable from the presence of expert talent for development.
Andry stated that Indonesia has potential talent and is very promising for investing in data centers by several technology companies. “With many GPUs including many talents, then many startups will emerge, and we hope for the best,” he said.
Andry recognizes that current general AI development can produce various types of content, including videos, photos, and code. Further development includes physically implementing AI in robots. “We have many talented people here as well. Maybe we just need more promotion,” he said.
