Odisha Gains Remarkable Capital Expenditure Achievements, Set To Be Eastern India’s Future Industrial Hub: CM
Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi told the State assembly on Saturday that Odisha is going to become eastern India’s future industrial hub, raising the state’s impressive capital expenditure achievements.
While explain the State’s ambitious plans for industrial growth, Majhi said that the capital expenditure for 2025-26 stands at Rs 65,012 crore, representing 6.1% of the GSDP, the highest among major Indian states.
In a reply to the Assembly on Budget discussion, Majhi emphasized Odisha’s capability to invest over Rs 5,000 crore per month, surpassing many other states that struggle to spend Rs 500 crore monthly.
The ‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’ attracted 593 investment proposals worth Rs 16.73 lakh crore, potentially creating 13 lakh jobs. Majhi promised that Odisha will become eastern India’s industrial capital within five years, with plans to transform every district into an industrial area. Recently, 40 medium and large industrial establishments received clearance, with more in the pipeline.
The Rs 2.90 lakh crore budget maintains strong fiscal discipline, with a deficit limited to Rs 34,200 crore (3.21% of GSDP). Significant allocations have been made for infrastructure development, including the establishment of Odisha State Highway Authority and plans for constructing 75,000 km of world-class roads by 2029-30. The government has also proposed Rs 408 crore to develop various economic regions.
