Ohio farmers poised to benefit from U.S.-U.K. trade agreement – Ohio Ag Net
As planting season continues across the country, the recently announced trade deal between the United Kingdom (U.K.) and the United States (U.S.) is widely being viewed as a win for farmers in Ohio.
“We are encouraged to see that agriculture has been prioritized in these international trade negotiations,” said Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “This trade deal opens up an important market for U.S. ethanol, made from Ohio corn, and positions our farmers for long-term financial stability and growth.”
Key highlights of the agreement, unveiled by the White House on May 8, 2025, include:
- Eliminating the U.K.’s 19% tariff on U.S. ethanol expands access to the U.K. market for American corn biofuel.
- Establishing a $700 million secure market for U.S. ethanol exports, aiding Ohio corn growers and the agricultural sector.
- Helping U.S. companies compete fairly for U.K. government contracts by closing trade loopholes.
- Streamlining customs to expedite U.S. exports to the U.K. and enhance efficiency for U.S. businesses.
“Every new trade agreement opens doors for Ohio farmers, and this one is no exception,” added Nicholson. “We urge the President to keep pushing for strong deals that put agriculture first. Doing so helps Ohio’s farmers succeed in a tough global market.”
