New York, USA – Oman has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, expressing continued support for the organisation’s efforts to maintain international peace and security, foster global cooperation, and advance sustainable development and human rights.
Marking United Nations Day on October 24, H E Omar bin Saeed al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of Oman to the UN, said the sultanate believes in the importance of multilateral action as a means to achieve just and lasting peace. He said Oman continues to promote dialogue, understanding and peaceful coexistence, while upholding justice and mutual respect among nations.
“Oman remains committed to supporting the UN system through development efforts, humanitarian initiatives, and active participation in addressing regional and global challenges,” H E Kathiri said. He added that these efforts reflect Oman’s foreign policy founded on moderation, cooperation and peace.
He noted that United Nations Day offers an opportunity to renew collective commitment to the organisation’s founding ideals and to work towards a more secure, just and sustainable future for generations to come.

This year’s observance marked the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter on October 24, 1945. The day was commemorated amid renewed calls to strengthen international partnerships to address global challenges.
In a statement marking the occasion, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the United Nations remains “the world’s only universal platform for dialogue and peace”, particularly during times of heightened regional tensions.
He said the founding of the organisation eight decades ago represented “a promise of peace, dignity and prosperity for all peoples,” built on the principles of human rights, the rule of law, justice and social progress.
Guterres noted that the world now faces complex challenges – from conflict and climate change to inequality, poverty and emerging threats such as artificial intelligence – but also possesses “unprecedented opportunities to build a better future”.
