Lakshadweep is a famous tourist destination in India. It is known for its spectacular coral atolls, pristine white-sand beaches, and crystal clear blue waters. Because of its picturesque landscapes, people are able to visit and enjoy their idyllic vacations with friends and family members. Lakshadweep has a strict prohibition on a pet that we all love to keep, and it is hard to find in the islands.
Which Indian state is completely free of dogs and snakes?
Lakshadweep is the only place in India marked as ‘snake-free.’ According to the Flora and Fauna of Lakshadweep, there are no snakes in Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep has a strict ban on a pet we all love to keep. You will not find this animal anywhere on the islands. You may find it surprising. The pet is none other than the dog, which is universally noted as one of the most loyal companions in the world. But Lakshadweep has no dogs. And according to the World Health Organization, it is also rabies-free. To maintain this designation, tourists cannot bring dogs to the islands.
Are there other animals thriving in the absence of dogs and snakes?
The administration has banned as well as stray dogs. There are no dogs here, but they have cats and rats in abundance. You can see them roaming around the streets and the resorts; they are a natural part of the ecosystem. The island has well over 600 species of fish, and the butterflyfish is recognized as the state fish of the territory. At least half a dozen species of butterflyfish can be spotted here, adding to the beauty of the surrounding seas.
Among the 36 islands of Lakshadweep, only 10 are populated. The islands are as follows Kavaratti, Agatti, Kadmat, Amini, Chetlat, Kiltan, Androth, Bitra, Minicoy, Kalpeni. Some of the islands have a population of fewer than 100 residents, the others are mostly uninhabited.
Each year, thousands of tourists visit Lakshadweep. The natural beauty and adventurous sports appeal to people from all walks of life from around the world. The unspoiled seas, coral reefs, and clarity of sea is most attractive. Tourism plays an important role in the territory’s economy.
