Oracle reportedly lays off over few hundred employees in India amid global job cuts

In a letter to staff, Oracle reportedly cited organizational changes as the reason for the job cuts.

US-headquartered IT giant Oracle has reportedly carried out layoffs in its India operations, following similar job cuts across other global locations, including the US and Canada.

According to sources, the layoffs began last week, primarily impacting the company’s Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) business. With around 30,000 employees in India, the country represents one of Oracle’s largest talent and R&D bases outside its home market.

Over 100 employees in India were let go last week as the company focuses on AI initiatives and cost optimization. Other divisions impacted include the Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS) divisions. Several hundred more night have been impacted according to sources, though Businessline could not independently confirm the exact number.

In a letter to staff, Oracle reportedly cited organizational changes as the reason for the job cuts. Affected employees are said to be offered 15 days’ salary for each completed year of service, along with medical insurance benefits for up to a year.

Oracle began operations in India 32 years ago, only opening the Oracle Cloud Mumbai Region in 2019, followed by the Oracle Cloud Hyderabad Region in 2020.

The company runs nine product development centres in India, including global centers at Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Noida, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Trivandrum.

Layoffs. fyi reports that Oracle has cut over 1,000 employees in the San Francisco and Seattle areas alone over the past month, contributing to a total of around 3,000 global job cuts.

Oracle India was yet to respond to an email sent by businessline seeking clarification.
