Over 60% of Companies Do Not Use Modern Technologies, According to the World Bank

Armenian businesses significantly lag behind their European counterparts in digital transformation, according to a new study conducted by the World Bank and the European Commission. The research, based on a survey of over 1,900 Armenian enterprises, highlights critical gaps in digital adoption.

A key challenge remains the low availability of high-speed internet – over 75% of companies lack access to it, which is crucial for modernizing business operations. Larger companies, particularly those in the hospitality and IT sectors, are the most successful in adopting modern technologies.

Experts emphasize Armenia’s substantial lag in labor productivity compared to similar countries. The adoption of digital technologies could dramatically improve this situation by optimizing logistics, order management, and business process control.

One of the primary barriers to digitalization is a severe shortage of skilled professionals. Many business owners are reluctant to invest in employee training, fearing that staff may leave after acquiring new skills. Additionally, businesses often lack information about suitable technological solutions and remain uncertain about their effectiveness.

The study revealed a significant gap in digitalization levels between large and small enterprises. While larger companies are actively integrating digital tools, small businesses continue to rely on traditional management methods, reducing their competitiveness in the international market.
