Pathfinder, a financial technology company helping families access and manage Education Savings Account (ESA) funds, has raised $12 million in Series A financing led by Portage Ventures. Reach Capital, Gradient, and Stand Together Ventures Lab also participated in the round.

The investment brings Pathfinder’s total funding to $16 million, including an earlier $4 million seed round co-led by Reach Capital and Gradient.

Pathfinder plans to use the new funding to accelerate platform development, expand its operations, and extend its services into additional U.S. states as education savings and school choice programs expand.

The company provides a payment infrastructure platform built around the Pathfinder Education Visa Charge Card and a companion mobile application.

The platform helps parents determine whether educational purchases are eligible under their state’s ESA program, organize receipts, and prepare supporting documentation.

Its AI-powered technology provides real-time guidance about eligible expenses and automates aspects of the reimbursement process.

For families participating in ESA programs, these tools are intended to reduce the administrative challenges associated with managing education funds and obtaining reimbursement for approved purchases.

Pathfinder launched in Arizona in March 2026 and has already grown to serve more than 8,000 accounts in the state’s ESA program. The company reports that its account base has approximately doubled month over month, largely through word-of-mouth referrals.

Arizona’s ESA program serves more than 108,000 students, making it one of the nation’s largest programs of its kind.

Pathfinder was co-founded by Amaan Ahmad and Sidharth Jain, who previously operated a microschool in London.

The company’s payment card is issued by Column, N.A., which funds card balances and has the capacity to scale the program to $100 million.

Pathfinder is pursuing money transmitter and servicing licenses and aims to operate in at least six states in 2027.

KEY QUOTES:

“Arizona is the vanguard for education choice, and we are confident this model can be adapted to other states seamlessly. As ESA programs grow, the next challenge is infrastructure, making purchases and administrative requirements easier for parents to navigate.”

Amaan Ahmad, CEO And Co-Founder Of Pathfinder

“School choice is expanding rapidly, but the financial infrastructure supporting these programs has not kept pace. Pathfinder is addressing a critical gap by making education funding simpler, more transparent and easier for families to navigate. We are excited to partner with Amaan, Sidharth and the team as they build the leading platform for ESA families.”

Stephanie Choo, General Partner And Co-Head Of Portage Ventures

“For millions of families, accessing ESA dollars is confusing, manual, and stressful. Pathfinder is building the most trusted way to put those resources to work. We’re excited to back Amaan, Sid, and their team as they become the platform parents rely on to discover and fund high-quality education for their children.”
