Penarth events: Music quiz, toddler story time and more

Here we look at just a few of the activities going on this weekend.

Chamber music concert

On Sunday, March 9, there will be a chamber music concert at Penarth Pier Pavilion.

The concert is a fundraiser for Penarth Chamber Music Festival.

The concert will feature the Haydn String Quartet, Schulhoff’s Duo for Violin and Cello, Clarke’s Lullaby for Viola and Cello, and Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8.

David Adams and Lucy Gould will be on violin, Isobel Neary-Adams on viola, and Alice Neary on cello.

Tickets cost £15 for adults but are free for those aged 25 and under, thanks to the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust.

There is a performance at 11am and a performance at 3pm.

Music quiz

A fun music quiz, the final event of the Penarth Lawn Tennis Club’s winter quiz series, will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 7.30pm.

Singing and dancing are actively encouraged.

Tickets are priced at £7, and include food.

Maximum team size is six, but participants can either plan their team in advance or show up on the night and make a team.

Toddler story time

A free toddler story time session will be held at Griffin Books on Friday, March 7, at 10.30am.

The World Book Day special will include book-themed stories and a craft activity for children aged two to five years.

Tickets are free but need to be booked in advance to secure a spot.

Swing the Pier

The Swing Project invites you to an evening of swing music and dancing at Penarth Pier Pavilion on Friday, March 7.

The evening will kick off with a Lindy Hop taster class, followed by live music from Katie Crooks Five and DJ Jessie Brooks.

The venue bar will be open throughout the event.

Tickets are priced at £18.

Small Things Like These screening

Lower Penarth Community Hall will host a screening of the 2024 historical drama film ‘Small Things Like These’ on Friday, March 7.

The movie, directed by Tim Mielants, features actors such as Cillian Murphy, Eileen Walsh, and Michelle Fairley.

The film delves into the infamous Magdalene Laundries in Ireland.

Doors open at 7pm, with the film starting at 7.45pm.
