This special exhibition opens up a dialogue between topics specific to the region, which are now contextualised and discussed at a European and in parts even at a global level.
Think global, act regional!
The exhibition takes a transdisciplinary approach with a wide range of objects, linking topics such as geology as the foundation of landscape, human and animal habitats in a changing climate, agriculture, globalisation, transformations, the origins of objects, 100 years of the radio, special features of the region, intangible cultural heritage, communication, tourism, health, mobility and more, all of which have shaped the district of Liezen – the largest district of Austria.
The processes that are responsible for our evolving landscape are highlighted to raise awareness for the responsible treatment of our environment. After all, our landscape is the foundation for the socio-economic orientation and the development of tourism in the region. Pioneering work and distinctive features tell of local visions and entrepreneurial initiatives along with their significance in the present and future, drawing on examples from tourism, business and agriculture.
The age of the radio began 100 years ago and changed the face of communications forever. To celebrate this anniversary, a selection of objects is used to trace the history of radio and information technology in general over the last 100 years up to the Digital Age. The exhibition also explores the company history of ‘Radio Mandl’, a small business that pioneered the radio in the Gröbming area from 1931.
The section on intangible cultural heritage explores local and global identities, together with the fascination, use and value of living traditions (Thomasnikolo at Gams bei Hieflau, Nikolo games, crafts).
This participatory exhibition project – conceived as a ‘work in progress’ while it runs – is set up as a space for discourse and critical examination of local and global issues.
The Schloss Trautenfels special exhibition was a project associated with the “European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024”.
