Perplexity Unveils Comet Browser and Email Assistant in India for Enhanced Productivity,

Unlike traditional browsers such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, Comet uses a workspace format instead of a tabbed interface. Perplexity recently rolled out its AI-powered Comet browser in India for Pro plan subscribers, alongside an Email Assistant tool available to Max plan users.

The Comet browser, first introduced in July 2025, is currently available on Mac and Windows devices. Android users can pre-order it via the Google Play Store, though the company has not announced a release date.

On September 22, Aravind Srinivas, chief executive of Perplexity, said on X that the browser is “built on Perplexity’s AI search engine” and is intended to make internet-based work, research and online tasks more efficient.

Comet browser features

Unlike traditional browsers such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, Comet uses a workspace format instead of a tabbed interface. This design enables users to keep information in one place rather than switching between multiple tabs.

The browser includes Comet Assistant, an AI agent that can automate tasks such as managing tabs, summarising emails, reviewing calendars and navigating web pages. It tracks user activity – including what has been read or searched – to recommend content.

Perplexity has also integrated an AI sidebar that functions as an interactive assistant. Through text instructions, users can direct it to complete actions including scheduling meetings, purchasing items online or converting web pages into emails. The company has said further updates will expand these functions.

Email assistant for inbox management

The Email Assistant tool is available to Max plan subscribers, which costs $200 a month. It supports Gmail and Outlook and allows users to schedule meetings, sort emails and compose responses.

Perplexity has emphasised that the assistant does not use individual emails for training. Instead, it adapts replies to reflect a user’s writing style while maintaining confidentiality.

After integration with an email account, the system can be instructed to prioritise incoming mail or draft replies. The company said the tool is aimed at reducing time spent on repetitive email tasks.

Perplexity added that both Comet and Email Assistant will receive further updates, with plans to expand the browser’s AI features and extend compatibility to more email clients.

The journey of AI adoption, as seen in this story, is exactly what the Making AI Work Summit & Awards represents. This leading AI conference fosters dialogue, collaboration, and innovation, while its integral recognition platform—the ET AI Awards India—celebrates the individuals and organisations showcased at the Summit for their groundbreaking contributions to AI. One platform, one purpose: to make AI work for business and society.
