Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon announced that Peru and India will resume negotiations next week to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
“We are resuming the eighth round, and negotiations will resume next week. This is extremely important because working together to conclude this agreement will further strengthen our trade relationship,” she added.

Within the framework of the 10th CII India-LAC Business Conclave in New Delhi, the Cabinet member emphasized the importance of concluding the trade agreement negotiations between Peru and India as a key tool to boost commerce between both countries.
“This will allow us to have competitive advantages, such as tariff benefits, for a bilateral trade relationship under better conditions,” Leon stated.
“Negotiations began in 2018, and several years have passed. However, last year, they were put on hold, and we have been taking steps to resume them. During this visit, having the opportunity to meet in person with the political stakeholders responsible for deciding on the continuation of these negotiations, we can now announce the resumption of FTA negotiation rounds with India,” she added.
The Cabinet member highlighted the Indian businesspeople’s interest in investing and establishing trade relations with Peru.
“This opens up a significant market for Peruvians because we are talking about a country with more than 1.4 billion inhabitants, where the demand for goods and services is extremely high, part of which we can meet with high-quality products from Peru,” Leon explained.
“Currently, India is our second-largest trading partner in Asia and the fourth-largest globally, with bilateral trade reaching US$5.8 billion in 2024. Peruvian exports alone amounted to approximately US$4.7 billion, growing by more than 86% over the past year,” she concluded.
