Peru reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and rules-based global trade to the

Likewise, the Cabinet member highlighted Peru’s progress in its OECD accession process, including the upcoming review by the Trade Committee.

The minister stated that the South American country is aligning its policies and practices with the highest international standards, which reinforces its commitment to sustainable development, economic stability, and good governance.

“Peru sends a clear message: we are committed to an open, stable, and modern economic relationship with OECD members and with the entire world,” Leon stated.

“We want to expand our international integration by focusing on future-oriented sectors such as clean energy, digital technologies, sustainable agro-industry, and responsible tourism,” she noted.

Accession process

Peru’s accession process to the OECD represents an opportunity to undertake substantive reforms in management and public policies, based on the highest standards, aimed at strengthening the Peruvian State’s institutional capacity to provide quality public services for the benefit of its citizens and to guide the country toward inclusive and sustainable development.

The minister participated in the session on strengthening multilateral cooperation and the rules-based international trading system to promote more stable and resilient global value chains.

Within this framework, the Cabinet member emphasized the need to reinforce the multilateral trading system with clear and transparent rules that respect international commitments and prevent trade distortions.

She also noted that promoting openness, productive diversification, and competitiveness is key to achieving sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

“Fostering initiatives such as policy dialogue, technical cooperation, and the exchange of best practices becomes essential to build a more level playing field in global trade,” Minister Leon stated.

Moreover, she emphasized that, in a world marked by uncertainty, countries must act decisively to promote fair, resilient, and sustainable trade.

“Productive diversification, digital infrastructure enhancement, and attracting investments in strategic sectors are essential for development,” she concluded.
