PHOTOS: Travelling show brings Science World fun to Abbotsford schools
The Science of Sport is stopping off at more than 100 B.C. schools
Abbotsford elementary students experienced a whole new side of sports on Thursday (Sept. 25) as the brand new travelling Science World program made its way to Sandy Hill Elementary.
Hosted by the On the Road team, this new exhibit titled “The Science of Sport” gives a hands-on look at the science behind playing sports.
According to Science World, this program was inspired by the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is coming to Vancouver next year, among other North American cities.
Kids between Kindergarten and Grade 7 take part in an interactive live presentation, which explores topics such as energy, human health, forces, and sports technological advances.
The Science World crew is taking this show to more than 100 B.C. schools in the 2025/26 school year, reaching approximately 22,000 students all across the province.
One of these schools was Abbotsford’s Sandy Hill Elementary, where more than 200 students were able to see this interactive show in person, with several students even getting the chance to come up to the front and become directly involved in the various tests.
Stefano Giulianetti, manager of outreach programs at Science World, explained that this show not only teaches scientific principles to students and adults alike, but also gives them a new perspective on things they have likely taken for granted in everyday life.
He also said that once the program has finished touring the province this school year, it is likely that it will be incorporated as a regular exhibit at Science World.
Education and Child Care Minister Lisa Beare said that she’s glad to see the On the Road team bring this new science show to all types of schools, including those in rural or remote communities.
“When kids are inspired by their learning, the whole classroom benefits,” Beare said.
“Thanks to Science World for inspiring the next generation of scientists and problem solvers. I’m excited for what’s to come, both in the classrooms and on the playing field.”
