Piano concert at Carmel Valley Library – San Diego Union-Tribune

The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library invite all to enjoy an evening with Brazilian pianist Dr. Vania Pimentel on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Join the event for a delightful hour of music featuring works by Maurice Ravel and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Pimentel brings an excellent combination of musical training and cultural insight to her performances. Having grown up in Brazil and studied music in multiple countries, she particularly loves promoting Brazilian composers alongside classical European repertoire, according to a news release.

Her background includes degrees from Brazil, Germany, and the University of Houston, where she focused her doctoral studies on Brazilian piano music. The program will feature Ravel’s charming Sonatina, a beloved piece that captures the composer’s elegant French style, and Villa-Lobos’ Choros No. 5, a captivating work that blends Brazilian folk melodies with classical piano technique, the news release stated.

Pimentel has performed throughout Brazil and the United States, including previous concerts at local libraries and venues around San Diego County. She brings her expertise as a former piano professor and genuine enthusiasm for sharing beautiful music with community audiences, according to the news release.

The Carmel Valley Library is located at 3919 Townsgate Drive, Carmel Valley, 92130. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome to help support future concerts and programs by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library.
