Plane with 240 onboard crashes in India after take-off – Pajhwok Afghan News

KABUL (Pajhwok): An Air India plane bound for London with 242 passengers onboard crashed seconds after take-off in the northwestern city of Ahmedabad, a media report said on Thursday.

The BBC reported that flight AI171 was travelling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.

There were 169 Indian nationals on the flight, as well as 53 Britons, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals, Air India says.

Tracking website Flightradar24 says it received the last signal from the aircraft at 625 feet (190m) “just seconds after take-off”

Videos from the scene show black smoke billowing from the crash site near the airport in a residential area. Local police say the plane crashed into accommodation used by doctors.
