Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advisor, Tarun Kapoor, visited Sambalpur on Sunday to review the progress of major developmental projects, including the Hirakud tourism development plan, civic infrastructural upgrades and a master plan for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary.

According to the statement issued by Sambalpur collector S B Bondar, Kapoor, during his visit to Hirakud dam, inspected work under the special assistance to states for capital investment. Officials in the state conveyed to him that the tender process for several projects has been completed. Kapoor urged authorities to ‘prepare a clear timeline and ensure the early commencement of work to transform Hirakud into a major tourism hub’.

He also reviewed projects of Sambalpur municipal corporation, such as the Sambalpur Ring road, redevelopment of the railway station and heritage development of Bhima Mandali. He stressed the need for timely execution of these projects to enhance urban infrastructure and preserve Sambalpur’s cultural heritage.

At Debrigarh, Kapoor highlighted the need for a comprehensive master plan to make it “India’s leading wildlife sanctuary with a focus on eco-tourism, biodiversity conservation and community participation”.

Kapoor further assessed industrial and mining operations of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and Neyveli Lignite Corporation, reviewing their role in sustainability, regional growth and job creation.

“Kapoor appreciated the ongoing efforts and called for coordinated action among all stakeholders to ensure fast-tracked, sustainable and inclusive growth for Sambalpur and its surrounding areas,” Bondar said.
