Politicians Are Weaponizing Poverty For Political Gain – Malik Bosso
Former Niger State lawmaker, Malik Madaki Bosso, has strongly criticized the Nigerian political class, accusing them of deliberately weaponizing poverty and hunger to maintain control over the masses.
In a bold statement issued as part of his Sallah message on Saturday, Bosso claimed that the country’s leaders have continuously failed to alleviate the suffering of the people despite a significant rise in government revenue.
“The people must reflect and reassess their condition,” he said. Though Sallah was meant to be celebrated with ease, poverty and lack have denied majority of the people this opportunity.”

Bosso pointed out that allocations from the federation account have increased drastically, yet Nigerians remain trapped in poverty and insecurity.
He noted that, “The highest money shared during the last government among the federal, state and local governments was about N750 billion. But now, the three tiers of government share about N1.4 to 2.4 trillion.”
Questioning the justification for the ongoing economic hardship, Bosso asked, “How can you justify that despite this huge difference, there is increasing poverty and hunger? When there is a need for people in position of authority to help, they always complain that there’s no money.”

He accused politicians of pretending to care only during election periods, saying, “Once in office, they abandon the people, leaving them to struggle with poverty and insecurity.”
Bosso urged citizens to reject the deceit of opportunistic politicians: “Resist the manipulation of greedy politicians who only care about their votes during elections.”
He also appealed to government officials not to forget the people of Mokwa, a community still reeling from recent flood disasters, and called for urgent support to aid their recovery.
