Poor sentiments, few launches, drag passenger vehicle sales in July to marginal growth

Domestic passenger vehicle (PV) total dispatches in July saw a marginal growth of 1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 3,49,179 units as compared with 3,45,845 units in July 2024.

Country’s largest PV maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) reported a marginal growth in its July domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) of 1,37,776 units as compared with 1,37,463 units in the same month last year.

Led by its new launches, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) also growth of 20 per cent YoY growth in its domestic sales to 49,871 units in July as compared with 41,623 units in the corresponding month last year.

“Our SUV growth has been supported by the recent launch of XUV 3XO ‘REVX’ Series and the commencement of deliveries for Pack two variants of the BE 6 and XEV 9E models,” Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, M&M, said.

Backed by its new launches like Syros, Kia India also achieved a sales growth of 8 per cent YoY in its domestic sales to 22,135 units during the month as against 20,507 units in July 2024.

However, Tata Motors reported a decline of 15 per cent YoY in its domestic sales to 37,083 units during the month as against 43,524 units in July 2024.

“In Q1 FY26, the Passenger Vehicle industry experienced volume pressures, particularly in May and June, with flat growth reflecting continued softness in demand. Looking ahead, while overall industry growth is expected to remain subdued, Tata Motors is well positioned to leverage its new launches to outperform across segments—including hatchbacks and SUVs, while continuing to build on the EV momentum,” Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said.

Similarly, Hyundai Motor India has also reported 10 per cent decline in sales during the month to 43,973 units as compared with 49,013 units in July 2024.

Japanese subsidiaries Honda Cars India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor also reported decline in their YoY sales.

In the two-wheeler segment, most of the manufacturers including market leaders Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) have reported growth in sales.

Hero MotoCorp reported growth of more than 18 per cent YoY to 4,12,397 units in July as compared with 3,47,535 units in the corresponding month last year.

HMSI reported growth of 6 per cent YoY to 4,66,331 units last month as compared with 4,39,118 units in July 2024. The company has beater Hero MotoCorp in sales during the month.

TVS Motor Company and Royal Enfield have also reported positive numbers. However, Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle India reported decline in sales on the yearly basis.
