Prabowo urges Indonesian scientists to boost industrial innovation
Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has called on Indonesian scientists to collaborate in advancing national industrial research and developing innovations that improve public welfare, a senior official said on Thursday.
According to Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, the president encouraged researchers not to be discouraged by the challenges involved in building large-scale manufacturing industries, such as vehicles, electronics, and semiconductors.
“He also spoke about optimizing palm oil processing. One example is a research outcome from ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology), which transforms palm oil waste into gasoline. All of these are expected to result in real, applicable innovations,” Yuliarto said.
He added that the president emphasized that Indonesia has abundant natural resources that, if utilized properly, can boost national prosperity.
To achieve this, Yuliarto stressed the importance of strengthening science education, developing high-quality human resources, and supporting research and innovation across various industrial sectors.
“The hope is that in the future, various products will be developed by Indonesians and become part of our domestic industries. That way, we can reduce our dependence on imports and the outflow of raw materials due to limited local manufacturing capabilities,” he explained.
Yuliarto and Prabowo made the remarks during a visit to the 2025 Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI), held from August 7 to 9.
More than 350 university leaders and over 1,000 of the nation’s top researchers are participating in the convention.
This year’s KSTI focuses on integrating research, higher education, and industry across eight priority sectors: food, energy, health, defense, maritime affairs, downstreaming and industrialization, digitalization (including AI and semiconductors), as well as advanced materials and manufacturing.
