Prairie Springs Science Center plans stall

Just a couple of weeks ago, Governor Tony Evers visited UW-La Crosse, promoting plans for a second building for the Prairie Springs Science Center on campus.

Evers was optimistic about getting approval this year to fund construction of the science building.

But the La Crosse project has stalled again, along with prisons, health facilities, and other buildings included in the governor’s budget plans.

Members of the state building commission tied 4-to-4 on the spending plans, preventing them from advancing to the Joint Finance Committee.

Some Republican legislators have said the spending plan is too big and hasn’t gotten enough public comment.

La Crosse area legislators Brad Pfaff and Jill Billings, both Democrats, are both members of the building commission.

The first building has been open at UWL for almost a decade.
