WASHINGTON — In a sweeping executive order aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure hosting of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the President today announced the creation of the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics. The move comes as the United States gears up to welcome millions of athletes, spectators, and media representatives from around the globe for what will be one of the most high-profile international sporting events of the century.

The President, who will serve as Chair of the Task Force, emphasized that the Games will serve as a “powerful opportunity to showcase American strength, pride, and patriotism” while also boosting the nation’s global profile. The Vice President will serve as Vice Chair.

The newly formed Task Force will be housed within the Department of Homeland Security, which will provide funding and administrative support. Its membership will include Cabinet secretaries, senior White House advisors, the FBI Director, the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and other federal leaders. Additional members may be appointed as needed.

According to the order, the Task Force’s responsibilities will include coordinating federal security measures, streamlining transportation systems, facilitating visa and credentialing processes for international participants, and ensuring full operational readiness in areas such as law enforcement, counterterrorism, and emergency response.

Each member agency will submit its own planning and preparedness report to the Task Force by October 1, 2025, outlining the steps being taken to support the Games. The group will also work closely with state and local governments to enhance interagency communication and address any legal, logistical, or regulatory hurdles that could impede preparations.

The Task Force will remain active through the conclusion of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, terminating on December 31, 2028, unless extended by the President.

“This is more than an athletic event — it’s a national moment,” the President stated. “We intend to make the 2028 Games a world-class celebration of sport, culture, and American hospitality, while ensuring the safety and security of all who attend.”
