Pressure Mounts on World Bank to Disclose DBG Audit Findings

Ghanaian stakeholders are intensifying calls for the World Bank to release a Deloitte-commissioned forensic audit of Development Bank Ghana (DBG), following allegations of financial mismanagement involving over GH¢400 million in public funds.

The scrutiny stems from claims by IMANI Africa’s Bright Simons that DBG’s former leadership engaged in questionable contracting practices, diverting resources from their intended development purposes.

The World Bank, which funded DBG through its International Development Association (IDA), ordered the audit after acknowledging the allegations, stating it treats fiduciary concerns “very seriously.” While Deloitte has submitted its report, the findings remain confidential—a move at odds with the Bank’s transparency pledges.

Insiders reveal the report may validate earlier red flags raised by internal audits, including governance gaps and financial irregularities under prior management. The secrecy has fueled tensions within DBG, with divisions emerging among executives over cooperation with investigators.

As public demand for accountability grows, the World Bank faces a critical test of its commitment to openness. The report’s release could either restore confidence in DBG or expose systemic failures in Ghana’s development financing framework.
