Houston County gathers before its game. SUBMITTED
The summer is the perfect time to look ahead to the 2025 Houston County football season.
Throughout the summer, I will be giving a week-by-week preview of the Fighting Irish football schedule.
Coming off a 7-4 record in 2024, the Fighting Irish will open the 2025 season at home against longtime foe Stewart County.
Houston County went on the road in Week 6 this past season and dominated Stewart County 41-7.
Malaki Cary and Preston Mitchell combined for 298 yards rushing and five touchdowns while the Fighting Irish defense intercepted three passes.
Houston County is 34-27 all-time against Stewart County. The two teams have played each other in every season since at least 2004.
Stewart County has won the series 14-7 during that span, but Houston County has won the last two meetings 49-0 and 41-7 respectively.
Since head coach Orman Meadow took over in 2017, the Fighting Irish are 5-3 against Stewart County.
