Malayalam megastar Mammootty has been away from the limelight for a while, but there is significant anticipation around his upcoming movies, including Kalamkaval. The film also stars actor Vinayakan in a key role, the announcement of which had created quite a buzz earlier. But now Kalamkaval director Jithin K Jose has revealed that he had first approached another Malayalam star, Prithviraj Sukumaran, before Vinayakan or even Mammootty.
Kalamkaval director first approached Prithviraj
Kalamkaval is an upcoming Malayalam movie, starring Mammootty and Vinayakan. In a recent chat with MosquitobatChannel, director Jithin K Jose said that he first approached Prithviraj fpr the film.
“We first approached Prithviraj with the script of Kalamkaval. He was interested and in fact he had suggested approaching Mammootty,” he recounted, adding that they decided to take up the film once the megastar completed the already committed projects, such as Kannur Squad, at the time.
There are two main characters in Kalamkaval, and Prithviraj was interested in doing one of the lead roles. “But there were issues with his dates. When were looking for other options, Mammootty only suggested Vinayakan,” explained Jithin, who is making his directorial debut with the film.
The director also said that they took around 45-50 days to complete the shooting of the film, which was held in areas in Thiruvananthapuram that share the border with Tamil Nadu.
On the other hand, Prithviraj was recently seen in the Hindi film Sarzameen, which also starred Bollywood actress Kajol and young actor Ibrahim Ali Khan. The film made its OTT premiere on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium last week.
