The latest hire is the third partner to join the firm in the past six months with a focus on distressed mergers and acquisitions, following Robb Tretter and Jonathan Gill.

International law firm Proskauer announced yesterday (19 May) the appointment of partner Ellen Wheeler to the firm’s New York office.

Prior to her move, Wheeler acted as counsel at global law firm Ropes & Gray. She will join Proskauer’s corporate department and will become a member of the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) group.

Throughout her career, Wheeler has advised on a variety of corporate law matters, including M&A, control and minority equity investments, leveraged buyouts and corporate governance, and has a specific understanding of distressed M&A, including credit bids and foreclosures. Additionally, she has worked on debt restructurings and recapitalisation and navigating in- and out-of-court recapitalisation.

Wheeler’s legal advice transcends several industries, including real assets, consumer goods, healthcare and hospitality, and she regularly advises public and private investors, financial institutions and corporations.

Firm chair Tim Mungovan commented: “As the private capital industry looks to unlock value in distressed or challenging environments, Ellen will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our Firm. Her experience in financial transactions and debt restructuring will bolster our capabilities across industries to help clients navigate unique legal and financial challenges.”

Co-chair of Proskauer’s corporate department Lauren Boglivi added: “Ellen’s sophisticated understanding of high‑stakes investments in intricate M&A legal frameworks makes her an exceptional addition to our team. I’m thrilled to welcome her to the Firm and confident her skillset across distressed M&A and special situations will drive value for our clients.”

Of her new position, Wheeler said: “Today’s market is filled with new challenges and new opportunities. I’m excited to join Proskauer’s team to help clients navigate these environments with strategic counsel. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the Firm delivering comprehensive solutions for clients across industries.”
