PSB welcomes FIFA’s ‘Football for Schools’ invitation to Pakistan
LAHORE – The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has warmly welcomed FIFA’s invitation to the newly elected Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to join the global Football for Schools (F4S) initiative, calling it a timely and promising step toward grassroots development in the country.
The initiative arrives shortly after the successful conclusion of the PFF elections and the federation’s formal reconstitution, an event widely seen as a turning point for football in Pakistan. FIFA’s invitation is being regarded as a golden opportunity to promote the sport among children aged 4 to 14 across the country’s primary and secondary schools.
Should Pakistan confirm its participation, FIFA will provide 164,940 footballs for schoolchildren, along with a one-time financial grant of USD 50,000 to help kick-start the programme nationwide.“This is a step in the right direction,” a PSB spokesperson said. “Now that the PFF is reorganized, we have a genuine opportunity to revive school-level sports, encourage healthy lifestyles, and reconnect our youth with the spirit of football.” The Football for Schools initiative not only supplies equipment and funding but also includes a tailored mobile application that offers training content and practical guidance for educators. To ensure long-term impact, FIFA will also deploy a team of experts to conduct capacity- building workshops, either virtually or on-site, to train Pakistan’s physical education instructors and school coaches.
The PSB reaffirmed its complete support for the initiative and expressed hope that the PFF would seize this moment to lay the groundwork for a robust football ecosystem, starting from the grassroots level.“This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of youth empowerment through sport,” the spokesperson added. “It’s more than just football, it’s about instilling discipline, teamwork, and a love for physical activity in the next generation.”
