Qantas will resume its seasonal non-stop flights between Melbourne and Delhi today, reconnecting the two cities just in time for Victoria’s peak travel season.
From today until 28 March 2026, Qantas will operate three return services per week between the Victorian and Indian capitals, adding more than 1,300 seats each week and over 30,000 seats across the season. These flights will be operated by Qantas’ Airbus A330-200 aircraft, featuring 26 lie-flat Business Class suites and 208 Economy seats.
Flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, leaving Melbourne at 09:20 and arriving in Delhi at 16:45 local time.
The recommencement of this direct service provides a vital link for Victorian tourism and business, making it easier for Indian tourists, visitors, students, and business travellers to access Melbourne’s world-class attractions, universities, and commercial opportunities. The timing also aligns with a packed cricket calendar, including the Australia v India T20 at the MCG on 31 October, the iconic Boxing Day Ashes Test, and multiple Big Bash League fixtures.
Qantas first flew between Melbourne and Delhi in December 2021, shortly after pandemic-era travel restrictions were lifted. The route was key to establishing trade and investment ties between Victoria and India, as well as reconnecting families following the pandemic. Today, the seasonal service aligns with peak travel demand between Melbourne and Delhi.
Qantas also offers year-round connectivity to India via Singapore through its partnership with IndiGo, giving Victorians one stop access to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai, in addition to 14 cities on IndiGo’s domestic network.
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said: “We’re delighted to bring back our nonstop link between Melbourne and Delhi, just in time for the busy travel season.
“These flights will be great for the Victorian visitor economy and are perfectly timed for Indian fans attending cricket events in Melbourne, including the T20 series, the Ashes, and the Big Bash League.”
Minister for Trade and Tourism Senator the Hon Don Farrell said: “Direct flights from Melbourne to Delhi deliver increased opportunities for trade, investment and tourism between Australia and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
“More flights between and Australia and India create more competition, driving down the cost for travellers, helping Australian businesses and creating Australian jobs.”
India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. In addition to reinstating the Melbourne-Delhi service, Qantas continues to offer nonstop flights from Sydney to Bengaluru in the country’s south, as well as connections to dozens of domestic destinations on its partner airline IndiGo, including connections between Singapore and major Indian cities.
Flights are available at qantas.com and via travel agents. All Qantas international fares include checked baggage, food and beverages, and inflight entertainment.
Qantas customers can connect to other destinations in India via the airline’s codeshare partnership with IndiGo.
