Qatar interested in helping to promote innovative methods of teaching & learning in Guyana

While representing President Dr Irfaan Ali at this year’s Earthna Summit in Doha, Qatar, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Sonia Parag participated in a roundtable forum hosted by the King Charles’ Foundation.

The discussion centered on the far-reaching impacts of climate change and the strategies employed by countries, particularly developing nations, to cope with and address this critical phenomenon.

Minister Parag emphasised the key components of Guyana’s impactful Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030, a visionary initiative conceived and developed by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Government.

This strategy continues to receive widespread commendation for its comprehensive and innovative response to sustainable development.

As the engaging session concluded, participants, including representatives from Sierra Leone and India, expressed a strong commitment to more frequent meetings in order to improve the sharing of challenges and possible solutions related to sustainable development.

As it is, Guyana has a two-year partnership with the King’s Foundation to advance sustainable urban development, a key part of Guyana’s LCDS 2030.

This will see the construction of a sustainable signature building in Georgetown using local materials and expertise. The collaboration stemmed from discussions initiated by President Irfaan Ali during his state visit to Scotland in October 2024.

On the sidelines of the Earthna Summit in Qatar, Minister Parag met with Mr. Mohammed Al Kubaisi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Qatar’s Education Above All Foundation (EAA).

The meeting focused on potential partnerships to promote and improve innovative methods of teaching and learning in Guyana.

Following this initial engagement, efforts will be made to have the technical teams from the two countries meet to discuss specific areas of collaboration.

Minister Parag was accompanied by Guyana’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Safraaz Shadood and Ms. Vanessa Benn, Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator in the Department of Environment and Climate Change of Office of the President.
